Proper Mouse Control by Prevention
If you’ve ever had a friend or family member who has had to deal with mice you know how important it is to instill some kind of mouse control in your home so you never get into the same situation. But, what you might not know is how to prevent rodent infestation properly.
To get started, you need to figure out how at risk your home is. Most modern homes won’t have tiny holes that allow in rodents, but if you live in an older home, there may be repairs needed, specifically plugging holes, that rodents use to gain access.
Keep in mind that mice can get through any hole that is the size of a dime or larger. This really is a small area and it is easily overlooked. It may seem boring and redundant, but check every nook and cranny from the outside of your home to make sure there are no entry points for rodents.
Once you’ve covered every hole you can move to the next step, keeping your home clean. If there is nothing left out for them to feast on, when they do get in, they won’t have any success in eating and hopefully won’t bring in friends and family. They can smell, dig and chew, so even when all holes are covered if they still want to get in for the food, they will try.
Using Mice Repellent for Mouse Control
An additional step in mouse control for your home is to lay some rat poison throughout the areas of the home they would try to access. Start with dark places and replace the poison on a regular basis. This way if any rodent does get in, they won’t make it too far before getting sick, and they won’t be coming back.
An effective mice repellent is a good way to keep out rodents as well. You will need one for every room that might attract rodents. Start with the kitchen, porch, laundry room, pantry, and move on to other rooms until you have them all covered. When you plug in the repellent (which is going to be a small device with a speaker) make sure you give it enough room to work.
These work silently to humans, but release a noise that only rodents can hear. This is an extremely disturbing noise for them, much like a jack hammer with no repetitive sounds. The sound waves can be interrupted by walls and small surfaces, such as furniture, curtains and blankets, so be careful not to block them.
By following these four points you can do everything possible to keep rodents out of your home. Here is a quick wrap up:
- No holes to get in
- Clean home
- Rat Poison
- Mice Repellent
Now relax as you’ve done all you can to prevent rodents from infesting your home.
